16 Weeks...
Your baby is now about the size of an avocado (about 4 1/2 inches long, crown to rump, and weighing approximately 3 1/5 ounces). In or out of the womb, babies are playful creatures. Yours may already have discovered his first toy — the umbilical cord — which he'll enjoy pulling and grabbing. The circulatory system and urinary tract are in full working order, and he's inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid through his lungs. Are there any maternity clothes out there that are neither butt-ugly nor a small fortune? My first foray into maternity shopping was less than exciting -- Old Navy had some good clearance items (jeans, a couple tops) and I stocked up on Christmas-themed underwear which was 50% off. Seriously, who is going to care if I have snowflakes on my briefs in May? NO ONE. Well, maybe that person right there...but other than that no one.No one I know just had a baby, so I can't glom off their maternity left-overs so I guess the clothes part of it is just going to suck, huh?I'm off to eat some ribs -- my first official craving.

I've bought all my maternity clothes for really cheap from Old Navy. I haven't really seen any ugly maternity clothes with bows and sparkles and stuff like I hear about, but I have seen ridiculously expensive maternity clothes. It is ridiculous considering you are only going to wear them for four to six months or so. I always wear Christmas socks in the summer:)
girrrrrl!TARGET! they seem to have decently priced STYLISH? maternity clothes... how 'bout thrift stores? i've seen some REALLY cool vintage maternity frocks;) --- e-mail you more laters;)! xoxo..
Man, I went to Target and was super disappointed. :( Maybe the stock is just low since it's post-holiday season. BUT, yes I will definitely be thrifting and hopefully find some cool vintage pieces.Did you get my e-mail?
Hopefully they (Old Navy) will get more stuff soon, there were some slim pickins...
OH that sucks. The Old Navy I go to has so much stuff, and their clearance rack has so much stuff. I got a bunch of tank tops for only 7 dollars because although it is winter, I am always hot. The weird thing is there is only one Old Navy by my house that has maternity wear, so I am glad that they have a lot of stuff.Btw, you made me wants ribs now:)
yes, dear one;) --- i got your e-mail! and SIGH! it made me HAPPY! will answer you more tonight!hmmm... i might have to go thrifting for you here.. too;)! xoxo..
I know, me too! There are a million Old Navy stores near me, but only the downtown store (which is still inundated by holiday tourists/shoppers) has a maternity section.Heh -- as far as the ribs go, when we were leaving downtown, we stopped for gas at this station across the street from Carson's Ribs. When my husband opened the car door to get back in, all I could smell wereRIBS. So half-way home I'm pining for ribs and then he gets a craving too. There is a rib place near our home called "Stevie B's" so we drive there all crazy with rib on the brain and when we get there, there's a sign which reads "Closed until January 5th." We didn't want to drive back downtown again with the crazy Friday traffic building, so we spent the next 30 minutes driving aimlessly until we found a rib place which I vaguely remembered that perhaps did or did not exist. Luckily, it did and it was opened and now we are both sitting here with our bellies so full of riblicious goodness we can barely walk.
And I am getting a lovely package for you all ready with some cool 80s/90s mags!
"jumping up and down"you have MADE my day sweetheart!xoxo...
I'm so jealous:)
There are some good patterns by Simplicity for long sleeve tunic tops that you can easily alter into a maternity top by adding satin cord/rope to make a top into a tie-back or even an empire waist. I dunno if that'll work for you style wise but it's an option. I didn't like a lot of the maternity clothes when I was preggers so I just shopped for clothes that were cut a-line, had an empire waist, wore a lot of long stretchy dresses, and a few button up sweaters and shirts. My style was pretty gothy so I already had a lot of the clothes in my existing wardrobe. The only things I bought from a maternity store (http://www.motherhood.com/home.asp?Media=Motherhood) were a few pairs of pants, underwear, hosiery and those over sized button oxford shirts that were tie backs. When I did by non maternity clothes while preggers I shopped the clearance sections at Express, Presence (on Clark st.,) Marshall Field's in the active wear dept. and contemporary, TJ Maxx, Kohl's, Target and Old Navy which you've already mentioned. I have a few maternity clothes left over would let you have but I think they would be huge on you.Y.
Yeah, I think I will have to make a lot of my own stuff. *sniff* Oh well... ;)
Try eBay. I got some of my stuff there that is pretty nice looking, and I would just type in lot with it--like maternity M lot, or whatever size you are. It might take a little while too.Old Navy had some stuff on clearance. But don't be surprised if you get formula samples too. A lot of those maternity stores buy the info if you pay by CC. Yipes.
